5-Star Theatricals has announced the cast of the upcoming production of Hairspray, with Ryan O’Connor as “Edna Turnblad,” Lexie Martin as “Tracy Turnblad,” Garrett Clayton as “Corny Collins,” Jennifer Leigh Warren as “Motormouth Maybelle,” and Becky Lythgoe as “Velma Von Tussle.” The musical, set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, tells the story of Tracy Turnblad’s ambition to dance on “The Corny Collins Show,” sparking social change as she advocates for integration on the show.
The production, featuring music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman, is directed by Marissa Jaret Winokur, the original Tracy Turnblad on Broadway. The choreography is by Clarice Ordaz, with musical direction by Anthony Lucca. Hairspray will premiere on October 10 and run through October 26 at the Scherr Forum Theatre in Thousand Oaks.
