Peter Whitehead, the Chief Commercial Officer at ARN, has bid farewell to the company after nearly a decade of service. His departure comes as part of a restructuring that also saw ARN’s Chief Content Officer, Duncan Campbell, transition to a consulting role earlier this year.
Whitehead, who previously had a long stint at SCA, expressed his excitement about taking a break from the Melbourne-Sydney commute and embarking on a new journey. Reflecting on his time at ARN, he highlighted the significant growth the company has undergone during his tenure.
When Whitehead first joined ARN in 2016, the network comprised ten metro radio stations and relied on paper diaries for audience measurement. Over the years, ARN has expanded its reach to encompass 58 radio stations across 33 markets, along with a multitude of DAB+ stations and sales representation for additional stations.
During his six-year tenure as Chief Commercial Officer, Whitehead led a dedicated team that collaborated closely with clients and agency partners to execute top-tier campaigns across ARN’s various platforms. He credited the talented individuals he worked with for the company’s success and evolution into a national audio powerhouse.
Whitehead expressed his gratitude towards ARN’s leadership team for the opportunity to be part of the company’s growth and transformation. He commended his colleagues for their passion, creativity, and unwavering commitment, which he described as instrumental in driving ARN’s achievements.
Colleagues and well-wishers lauded Whitehead’s leadership and amiable personality, wishing him the best for his future endeavors. His departure marks the end of an era at ARN, prompting reflections on his contributions and the legacy he leaves behind.
As the radio industry continues to evolve and adapt to changing audience preferences and technological advancements, the departure of key figures like Whitehead underscores the dynamic nature of the sector. Industry experts emphasize the importance of strong leadership and innovative strategies to navigate the competitive landscape and engage audiences effectively.
While Whitehead’s departure signals a new chapter for both him and ARN, it also serves as a reminder of the industry’s resilience and capacity for transformation. As radio networks strive to stay relevant and engaging in an increasingly digital world, the role of visionary leaders like Whitehead remains crucial in shaping the future of audio broadcasting.
