Following a recent investigation, the Ketthip Beauty Clinic located on Sussex Street in Sydney’s CBD has become the center of attention due to concerning infection-control practices that have raised alarms among health officials. The New South Wales Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) has issued a public health warning urging customers of the clinic to undergo testing for HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. This warning stems from the discovery of risky practices at the clinic, including the use of veterinary equipment in procedures.
The HCCC has taken swift action by imposing an eight-week prohibition order on the Ketthip Beauty Clinic, halting all health services provided by the establishment. Customers who have undergone certain procedures at the clinic, such as infusions, injections, microdermabrasion, or PDO thread lifts, have been advised to consult their general practitioners promptly.
During an inspection by the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Public Health Unit, it was revealed that the clinic’s practices may have exposed individuals to blood-borne viruses, posing a significant health risk. The search conducted at Ketthip exposed unauthorized individuals performing invasive cosmetic procedures, including the injection of substances like botulinum toxin and fillers without the necessary qualifications.
Furthermore, the clinic was found to possess surgical equipment intended for veterinary use, raising serious concerns about the standards of hygiene and infection control. Shockingly, the commission discovered instances where procedures like breast augmentations, typically requiring registered health practitioners in hospital settings, were conducted at the clinic without proper oversight.
Compounding the issue, expired controlled medications and prescription-only medicines imported from overseas were also found on the premises, their quality and safety unknown. The commission highlighted the immediate health and safety risks posed by the clinic’s practices, emphasizing the potential for adverse reactions among customers.
As the investigation unfolds, with the commission issuing multiple public health warnings relating to cosmetic services in recent months, the focus remains on ensuring the well-being of those who may have been affected by the Ketthip Beauty Clinic’s substandard practices. Despite requests for comments, the clinic has remained silent on the matter as authorities continue their inquiries into this troubling situation.
